Forensic Interview Services
Care House’s Forensic Interview Team assists law enforcement and Child Protective Services investigators by conducting forensic interviews of children with allegations of abuse. The goal of a forensic interview is to obtain a statement from a child in a developmentally sensitive and unbiased manner – to support accurate and fair decision-making in the criminal justice and child welfare systems.
The forensic interview process is a child-centered collaborative team approach to minimize trauma to children who have experienced abuse. The multidisciplinary team: law enforcement, Child Protective Services, Macomb County Prosecutor’s office, and Care House advocates can observe the interview through a closed-circuit TV.
The collaborative approach helps ensure the safety and protection of children and helps assess whether to develop a plan for the child’s safety and may lay the groundwork for criminal prosecution of the abuser. A Care House family advocate will also spend time with children/teens and their non-offending family members to help in aftercare services.
