Our History

Our mission is to prevent and reduce the incidence and trauma of child sexual and physical abuse in Macomb County through collaborative, multidisciplinary, and effective family-centered activities.

Our History

Care House is the Macomb County Child Advocacy Center (also known as a 
CAC). We are an accredited member of the National Children’s Alliance. We 
are one of about 35 CAC’s in Michigan and one of over 950 CAC’s 
nationwide. To better respond to child abuse investigations and create a 
better system for children, Child Advocacy Centers (CAC) were created in 
Huntsville, Alabama by former Congressman Robert E. “Bud” Cramer.  
Child Advocacy Centers created a multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach, 
which coordinated law enforcement, child protective services, and medical 
and mental health professionals. This approach aimed to improve outcomes 
for abused children and their families. Care House, Macomb County Child 
Advocacy Center is an accredited member of the National Children’s 
Alliance, offering comprehensive services to Macomb County children and 
families.

Since opening our doors in 1996, we have conducted over 12,400 investigative child forensic interviews and provided services to over 13, 800 families.

In the summer of 2018, we opened a satellite center in Warren to bring critical services, including forensic interviews, therapy and support groups directly to children and families in the southern part of our county. This expansion has also freed up space in the schedule of our main Mount Clemens location so that services can be delivered faster to children in the communities for whom that location is more convenient. We are now able to conduct forensic interviews simultaneously from two locations, and more efficiently provide vital support services to more clients, many of whom previously lacked reliable transportation to travel to Mount Clemens from our southern communities for weekly therapeutic services.
